Today in class we learned about different definition levels of narrators. Such as discourse narrator: which is discussion , dialogue, argument, the way the narrator tells the story, collective work of a conversation topic/ genre is a discourse.  The definition of a story:  narrative of who, what , when , where events happening in a sequence, series of events that a narrator is writing about. In class we uses “Little Red Riding hood as an example”, because in this story there a plenty of sequence of events that happened during that story. Than in the end she gets killed by the wolf, which leads to a moral of the story.

– The moral of the story is DON’T TALK TO STRANGERS OR ELSE THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.

It was very creative of the author/narrator of  “Little Red Riding Hood” to come up with a way to make the story interesting to young readers and also to warn them about avoiding such a situation by not talking to strangers.

Some authors start with the climax of the story in the beginning instead of the end. The reason for this is because could make the readers question “why did this happen”? and want to continue reading the story to find the reason why. In this case its a way for authors to engage their readers into focusing in the story. Its a way to not lose your audience.  Working backwards forces readers to pay attention.  For an example if i were writing a story on how i broke my leg, i would start the story by saying….. Today i broke my leg and I was in a horrible pain the whole day.

Today I broke my leg and I was in pain the whole  This happened during work. Unfortunately it happen on the only day i came to work early. I knew something strange was going to happen today because i just had that feeling. I was at work giving a patient her med’s. When i just slip and fell on my right leg. I notice that the floor was covered in water, someone must have spilled water on the floor earlier…etc……

Today i learned how to correctly cite a work cited page. First you must check for title, numbered pages, the dates and etc. Before learning this i always had trouble with the work cited page. It has always been a hassle for me because the work cited page can be a bit confusing. There are certain information that you have to put in the right order. You havee to make sure to put the right information for a book, journal, magazine or article. That’s what made me confuse , I didnt know the difference between the magazine, book or journal. There are certain websites that can also be helpful for MLA format of the work cited page. I  found those websites and read them over and took notes, which was helpful. Today’s class of notes was also helpful. So for my next response paper, i hope that i do the right format.

Fourth Grade Fight

Time i got into a fight was my very first fight in 4th grade. This girl named “Jennifer” always use to pick on me, Maybe because i was shy. She thought she was brave because they made some group called the “Homegirls” which was a little “gang” lol. Jennifer was in it as well. She started thinking she was all of that just because of the stupid group she was in. So she kept picking on me and insisted that’s we must fight after school. I was never the fighting type, but boy did that girl know how to push my buttons. Than when after school came she actually looked for me, and for no reason she just hit me! So i hit her back and kept on hitting her. I won the fight because i give more h. Than our teacher Mrs. Gilmore saw us and we got into trouble. This boy in my class was my witness named Luis and another boy told the truth and was on my side, he said i didn’t agree to fight but she hit me and than i hit her back, he told the teacher that she forced me to fight her. So Mrs. Gilmore believed Luis and the other boy and she realized i didn’t start it but Jennifer did.  That night Mrs. Gilmore called my house and explained the incident to my mom. I didnt get into trouble because my mom knew i was never a trouble maker and she pushed my buttons. The next morning my mother and sister came to the school to discuss things. Ever since than i never really got into a fight.

Working in groups is a helpful way to learn your mistakes. In class we had to hand it a response paper. After seeing my other fellow classmates papers i learned from their mistakes. It gave me more of a idea on how our Professor wants the paper done. In the groups we was able to interact with all of our classmates and we also taught each other things as well.  It was as if we were prof reading our papers before handing it to our Professor. All Professor should use this method because its brilliant. We learned to write a good PIE paragraph you have to have the point, information and explanation.  The point should be (4-6 Sentences) which is kind of like the definition of the word you are going to explain. The information should include where you got it from. The explanation should be the longest part which is the overall conclusion of the paragraph.  Make sure the quote explains the defination of your word. You should include the (author page).

To understand stories  that has multiple characters “Narratology: A Guide to the Theory Of Narrative is a helpful way to help you narrow down the levels. For an example the story “She Lived in a Story” the guide helped me break the narrators down in groups, which helped me understand the role of the narrators better.  After reading the article i realized that Samprerio is the General Frame work because he is the actual creator of the whole entire story, which means hes in the higher level. Than comes Segovia who is the second – degree narrator because he is the one who created the story that Ofelia is in. Second- degree narrator is embeded in the story. He is the matrix narrator which is the overall of the story. The story starts of introducing him, which shoes that he is the main character.  Ofelia would be the third-narrator because she is the one who the author is focusing on. Third-degree narrator isn’t embedded in the story. Stories which can be confusing with many narrators can be less confusing if you use Narratology theory.

We continued reading “She lived in a Story”. We focused the phase by Ofelia “I write that he writes a story that i lived in”. Ofelia is aware that the author Segovia (who is also a character and a narrator in the story) is writing a story  based on her life. The quote explains that she realizes that she is being targeted by someone. Segovia is the creator of the story.  He is the one who is watching her every move to write a story based on her. The title “She Lived in a Story” explains the story for itself. She is aware that she is being watched and a story is based on her life. the only thing i wished was that there were more details on how she felt about being watched by Segovia.  Was she frighted, nervous, aggravated or  was she thrilled about it? i loved how she also was a character in the story , which gives us a idea on her perspective about things. the fact that she was a narrator at a certain section of the story gives, connects the readers with not only Segovia but also with her as well. The author Samperio did a great job with having more than one narrator, so that the story is told in different view points.
